GalaxEye Acquires StarOps to Deepen Indigenous Satellite Engineering

Bengaluru-based Earth-observation startup GalaxEye has acquired StarOps, a spacecraft-engineering company from the same city, in a move that brings satellite-platform design in-house as the young firm scales up its imaging constellation. The acquisition, announced on 10 August 2026, folds StarOps' qualified satellite buses, subsystem technologies and engineering team into GalaxEye. The companies did not disclose the value of the deal.

Building the full stack

GalaxEye, incubated in 2021 at IIT Madras by a group of master's students, has made its name with OptoSAR — a technology that places both a synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) sensor and a multispectral optical sensor on a single optical bench, so the two instruments observe the same point on Earth at the same instant. That "fusion" approach promises all-weather, day-and-night imagery, and the company demonstrated it earlier this year with Mission Drishti, described as the world's first commercial OptoSAR satellite, launched in May 2026.

Owning the payload is one thing; owning the spacecraft that carries it is another. By absorbing StarOps, GalaxEye gains control over the satellite bus — the structural, power, propulsion and avionics platform on which its sensors ride — rather than depending on external suppliers. For a company aiming to deploy and operate its own constellation, that vertical integration shortens development cycles and keeps critical know-how inside the business.

What StarOps brings

StarOps was incorporated in 2022 to develop satellite platforms and indigenise critical spacecraft technologies in India. The acquisition hands GalaxEye a portfolio of qualified satellite bus platforms spanning the 50 kg, 150 kg and 250 kg classes, along with proprietary subsystem technologies, qualification heritage, testing infrastructure and engineering tools.

Just as important is the team. Several StarOps engineers previously worked at TeamIndus, the Bengaluru venture that built India's privately developed lunar lander and rover under the Google Lunar XPRIZE programme — giving GalaxEye a bench of engineers with deep, hands-on spacecraft-development experience.

An in-house engineering legacy

This acquisition is an important milestone in that journey, and through StarOps, the in-depth engineering legacy continues," said Suyash Singh, co-founder and chief executive officer of GalaxEye.

Why it matters

The deal is a marker of maturation in India's private space sector, where startups are increasingly consolidating rather than competing in isolation — buying capability to accelerate roadmaps instead of building every piece from scratch. It also reinforces a push toward indigenous spacecraft platforms at a time when the government, through IN-SPACe and national Earth-observation initiatives, is encouraging private players to build sovereign imaging capacity. With satellite-bus engineering now under its own roof, GalaxEye is better positioned to move from a single demonstrator toward a working OptoSAR constellation.
