Bloq Quantum Builds a Kerala Quantum-Skilling Base With SBCE and QClairvoyance Tie-Ups

Quantum lands on a Kerala campus
Kerala-based startup Bloq Quantum has struck two partnerships aimed at widening India's quantum-computing talent pipeline, including a tie-up with Sree Buddha College of Engineering (SBCE) to set up a dedicated quantum-computing lab. The SBCE collaboration, formalised around 22 July 2026, positions the private engineering college as a regional hub for undergraduate quantum education and gives its students hands-on access to real quantum tools rather than textbook theory.
In a second agreement, Bloq Quantum partnered with quantum-education firm QClairvoyance, which named the startup an official "Quantum Skilling Partner." Together, the deals sketch out a grassroots strategy: build the workforce first, in the places where engineering graduates are actually trained.
What the SBCE partnership offers
At the core of the SBCE tie-up is direct access to Bloq Quantum's cloud-based quantum-computing platform, "Bloq." Students will be able to run experiments on quantum hardware and simulators through the cloud, moving beyond the abstract mathematics that has long defined quantum courses. The collaboration also bundles in faculty-development programmes, curriculum integration, industry masterclasses, hackathons, capstone projects and internships — an attempt to weave quantum skills through a full degree rather than bolt them on as an elective.
The two partners have also said they plan to jointly pursue research grants and co-author publications, aligning their work with India's National Quantum Mission, the more than ₹6,000-crore national programme launched in 2023 to build quantum capability across computing, communication, sensing and materials by 2031.
Why workforce, not just hardware
India's quantum push has so far been dominated by big-ticket hardware and infrastructure headlines: superconducting-qubit machines, quantum-secure communication testbeds, and the Amaravati "Quantum Valley" that is due to host an IBM quantum computer. But a recurring worry across the ecosystem is talent. Quantum computing needs people fluent in an unusual blend of physics, computer science and engineering, and that skill base remains thin relative to the ambition.
Efforts like Bloq Quantum's are aimed squarely at that gap. By embedding cloud access and structured curricula inside a teaching college — rather than only at elite research institutes — the model tries to broaden the base of engineers who can eventually build, program and apply quantum systems. It is a less glamorous layer of the quantum stack than a dilution refrigerator, but arguably a more binding constraint on India's long-term competitiveness.
Kerala's quantum ambitions
The partnerships also reinforce Kerala's emergence as a quantum-education cluster. Bloq Quantum is incubated within the state's startup ecosystem, and the SBCE lab adds to a growing set of academic-industry links in the region. For a technology whose payoff may be a decade away, seeding it in classrooms now is a bet that today's undergraduates will be the ones who commercialise it.
The caveats
The tie-ups are early and educational in scope: they build skills and access, not yet products or breakthroughs, and cloud access to quantum platforms is a widely available commodity rather than a moat. The real test will be whether the graduates, research output and startups that flow from these programmes materialise over the coming years, and whether they connect to the hardware and mission-scale efforts unfolding elsewhere in the country.
Even so, the announcements capture something important about how India intends to compete in quantum: not only by buying and building machines, but by manufacturing the people who will use them.
