Hyderabad's WATER Raises $2.5 Million to Build a Robotic Bed That Reshapes Itself Around You

The Round

WATER, a Hyderabad-founded robotics startup working at the intersection of sensing hardware and what it calls biophysical intelligence, has raised a $2.5 million seed round led by Endiya Partners. Angel investors in the round include Pullela Gopichand, India's chief national badminton coach, alongside Darwinbox co-founder Rohit Chennamaneni and Swiggy co-founder Nandan Reddy.

A Bed With 10,000 Sensors

WATER's flagship product, CAMA, is not a mattress with a few pressure sensors bolted on — it is described by the company as carrying more than 10,000 embedded pressure sensors and dozens of precision actuators that continuously read a sleeper's body position and musculoskeletal load, then physically reshape the sleeping surface in real time to relieve pressure points, without waking the person or requiring any manual adjustment. CAMA debuted publicly at CES 2026 in January, where WATER first described the system's specifications and positioned it for a retail launch priced around $12,000, with availability targeted for Fall 2026.

The company is also developing FLOW, an adaptive chair built on the same underlying approach. Both products run on what WATER calls VORTEX, a foundational model the company has built to sense, interpret and respond to the human body — the software layer the company argues is the real product, with CAMA and FLOW as its first two physical expressions.

Founders and the Thesis

WATER was founded in 2024 by Teja Vinukollu and Haneesh Mourya Desu, with the company's operations spanning Hyderabad and a US entity in Delaware. The founders' pitch is a category they call "biophysical AI" — robotics and machine learning applied to how furniture and physical spaces interact with the human body, rather than the more familiar robotics categories of mobility, manipulation or industrial automation.

What the Funding Is For

WATER says the fresh capital will go toward further R&D validation of the VORTEX model and expanded data collection — the unglamorous, ongoing work of refining a sensing-and-actuation system that has to work reliably across a wide range of body types, sleeping positions and mattress conditions. The company has also signaled ambitions to expand VORTEX beyond bedroom furniture into automotive seating, aviation seating and healthcare applications — domains where continuous, real-time sensing of a person's physical state has commercial value well beyond comfort, from driver fatigue detection to pressure-injury prevention for immobile patients.

Why It's a Bet on the Model, Not the Bed

At $12,000, CAMA is a luxury product that will reach a narrow consumer segment on its own. The more interesting question for investors is whether VORTEX, the sensing-and-response model underneath it, generalizes to markets — automotive, healthcare — with far larger addressable revenue than premium consumer furniture. WATER's seed round is, in that sense, a bet that a company can bootstrap a foundational biophysical-sensing model by first proving it in a single expensive product, then licensing or extending the underlying model elsewhere once it has enough real-world data to be reliable.
