Solinas Integrity Raises $5.5 Million to Send Robots Where India Still Sends People
IIT Madras-incubated robotics company Solinas Integrity has raised $5.5 million (about ₹46 crore) in a Series A1 round led by Hero Enterprise Partner Ventures and co-led by Mela Ventures, scaling its Endobot pipeline-inspection crawlers and HomoSEP sewer-cleaning robots that aim to end manual entry into India's sewers.

The company that wants to end the manhole
Some deep-tech problems are exotic. Solinas Integrity works on one that is grimly ordinary: the pipes, sewers and septic tanks that run under every Indian city, and the human beings who are still sent inside them. On 6 August 2026, the IIT Madras-incubated robotics company said it had raised $5.5 million — about ₹46 crore — in a Series A1 round led by Hero Enterprise Partner Ventures and co-led by Mela Ventures, capital it will use to scale a business built on a simple proposition: machines should do the work that has cost sanitation workers their lives.
The round drew a notably deep bench. Beyond the two leads, it saw participation from the Luthra Group and follow-on cheques from existing backers including SBI Ventures' SVL-SME Fund, Zerodha's Rainmatter, and 8X Ventures Fund I — the kind of insider re-up that usually signals a company hitting its numbers rather than merely surviving.
Two robots, one underground
Founded in 2018 by Divanshu Kumar and Moinak Banerjee out of IIT Madras, Solinas has organised its technology around two products that address the two halves of underground infrastructure work: seeing and cleaning.
The first, Endobot, is a family of tethered crawler robots that inspect water, sewer and stormwater pipelines. It carries HD cameras for visual inspection, inertial measurement units for precise motion tracking, and laser profiling to measure a pipe's true internal geometry — the cracks, deposits and deformations that decide whether a line needs repair now or in five years. Rated for pipelines from 90 mm to 2,100 mm in diameter, it turns pipeline inspection from a guessing game into a data exercise, feeding utilities the predictive-maintenance information they have historically lacked.
The second, HomoSEP — and its flagship variant, the Homosep Atom — is the one that carries the company's moral weight. It is a robot built to clean sewers, manholes and septic tanks that would otherwise be entered by hand. Manual scavenging is illegal in India, yet workers continue to die in septic tanks and sewer lines every year, asphyxiated by toxic gas or drowned in sludge. HomoSEP consolidates the dangerous jobs — blade-based desilting, solid-waste breakdown, suction and storage — into a single machine an operator controls from the surface. The pitch is not only efficiency; it is the removal of a human body from a lethal space.
Where the money goes
Solinas said the fresh capital will fund an expansion of manufacturing capacity, further product development, and a strengthening of its software infrastructure, alongside working capital to support a growing book of government and enterprise contracts. That last phrase is the tell. Infrastructure robotics lives or dies on procurement, and the customers here are municipal corporations, water boards and industrial plants — buyers with real budgets but slow cycles. Scaling means being able to finance and deliver against tenders that pay on their own schedule.
The company's traction has already earned it attention beyond the funding press: Solinas was recently made the subject of a case study published by Harvard Business Publishing, a rare distinction for an early-stage Indian hardware startup and a useful signal to the global customers it hopes to reach.
Why robotics-for-infrastructure is finally investable
For years, "robots in pipes" was a worthy idea that struggled to attract venture capital, for the same reasons all hardware does: long sales cycles, capital-heavy manufacturing, and customers who prefer the devil they know. What has changed is a convergence of pressures. Indian cities are under mounting regulatory and judicial pressure to end manual entry into sewers. Water utilities, facing non-revenue-water losses that swallow a third or more of supply in some networks, finally have a business reason to inspect before they dig. And the underlying components — compact drives, laser sensors, edge compute — have fallen far enough in cost to make a rugged, affordable machine viable in an Indian price band.
Solinas sits at that intersection, and it is not alone: Kerala's GenRobotics, with its Bandicoot sanitation robots, has pushed the same argument from a different angle. The emergence of more than one credible, venture-backed player is itself the story — it suggests infrastructure robotics has crossed from mission-driven pilot to a market that investors believe can compound.
The harder test ahead
A $5.5 million A1 is a scaling round, not a proof-of-concept one, and it raises the bar accordingly. The questions now are about execution at volume: can Solinas manufacture and service a growing fleet across dispersed municipal customers; can it convert case-study prestige into repeatable, multi-city deployments; and can it keep its unit economics intact while financing long public-procurement cycles?
None of those are technology questions — the robots work. They are the operational questions that decide whether a deep-tech company built on a genuinely good idea becomes a durable business. For a startup whose core promise is that no worker should have to climb into a sewer again, getting those answers right is not only a commercial matter. It is the whole point.
