India Photonics Association Launches to Connect Research and Industry
The new industry body aims to build collaboration across optical technologies, supply chains and policymaking.

The India Photonics Association has launched in New Delhi as an industry-led forum connecting researchers, startups, manufacturers and other organisations working with light-based technologies.
The association’s launch release carried by TimesTech names India Semiconductor Mission CTO Sarin Sundar among those present. It identifies Ashwini Aggarwal as director general and LightSpeed Photonics founder Rohin Y as a board member.
From optical components to complete products
Photonics includes technologies that generate, guide and detect light. Its applications span communications, sensing, healthcare and manufacturing. Building a product can require several capabilities to work together: a device design, suitable materials, fabrication, packaging and testing.
The association says it intends to support collaboration across that supply chain and provide industry-grounded input to policymaking. ANI’s September 9 launch account also describes its role as a neutral forum for the sector.
What to follow next
An industry body can help companies find partners and identify shared manufacturing or testing gaps. The practical outcomes will be specific collaborations and facilities that members can use, rather than the launch itself.
Useful milestones would include jointly defined pilot projects, test access for smaller firms and clear routes from research prototypes to qualified products. The announcement establishes the association’s intended role; it does not demonstrate new manufacturing capacity or validate the market forecasts quoted in launch coverage.
