AlgoFET Raises Rs 15 Crore to Build the Docks, Chargers and Fleet Software India's Drones Need to Stay in the Air

India has spent the last four years learning to build drones. It has spent much less time thinking about what the drones land on. AlgoFET, a Bengaluru-based deep-tech startup founded by IIT Guwahati alumnus Ankit Mishra, wants to fix that — and on 19 August 2026 it closed Rs 15 crore in a pre-Series A round led by Piper Serica to accelerate the work.
What the round funds
The pre-Series A is entirely primary capital. AlgoFET said the money will be used to accelerate development of its next-generation infrastructure products, expand in-house manufacturing, deepen proprietary IP and scale deployments across defence, enterprise and international markets. Piper Serica, the Mumbai-based deep-tech investor best known for its "Bharat Tech Fund" thesis, led the round.
The size — Rs 15 crore, roughly USD 1.8 million — puts it in the top half of Indian deep-tech pre-Series A rounds this quarter. It is meaningful for a hardware startup: enough to expand a small factory, build inventory for the next 12–18 months of shipments, and put engineers on the next generation of products, but not so much that the company has to spend it fast.
The product: everything a drone needs when it isn't flying
AlgoFET's stack is the plumbing autonomous drone fleets need to actually operate continuously. It covers:
- Autonomous docking stations — the boxes drones land in, powered on, sheltered from weather, and ready to launch on command.
- High-power charging systems — fast-charging hardware that can turn around a drone battery in minutes rather than hours.
- Battery management — the electronics and firmware that watch cell health, cycle life and safety while the drone is charging or sitting idle.
- Embedded compute and firmware — the software running on the docking station itself, coordinating charging, weather sensing, comms with the drone and comms with the operator.
- Cloud-based fleet monitoring — the dashboard that lets one operator see the state of dozens of docks, dozens of drones and thousands of missions in near real time.
That combination is what turns a drone from a piloted tool into a persistent, on-demand asset. It is the difference between having to send a crew to launch and recover the drone every time and having a network of hangars scattered across a border, a factory, a pipeline or a farm that can be dispatched from a control room.
Why now, and why in India
Two things happened simultaneously to make this a real market.
The first is that drone missions are getting longer, more repetitive and more critical. Defence surveillance, perimeter security, pipeline inspection, precision agriculture, last-mile delivery — the use cases that scale all have the same shape: many small flights, on a fixed circuit, with predictable turnaround. That shape rewards autonomous ground infrastructure.
The second is that India has developed a genuine drone industry over the last four years. There are now more than 500 drone startups registered on the DPIIT portal, iDEX and NIDAR-style challenges are pushing capability rapidly up the technology ladder, and defence procurement has begun to reward indigenous vehicles at scale. What all of those vehicles need — and what almost none of the drone startups themselves build — is the ground segment.
AlgoFET is one of the first Indian companies to make the ground segment its core product rather than an accessory. That gives it a clean sales motion — its customers are drone operators of any make — and a large addressable market that grows with the entire Indian drone industry, not with any single OEM.
The traction claim
AlgoFET reports it has deployed more than 2,000 units so far, with an order pipeline of over 4,000 units and a live order book worth roughly Rs 100 crore across defence, government, logistics and enterprise customers.
Those are self-reported numbers, but they are consistent with what a company at this stage of a hardware S-curve tends to look like. Two thousand shipped units suggests a proven design and a factory that can build to it. A 4,000-unit pipeline and Rs 100 crore of orders suggest the demand side is running well ahead of the manufacturing side — which is why the Rs 15 crore is going into in-house production capacity before it is going into R&D.
Where the money changes the arithmetic
For AlgoFET specifically, the pre-Series A does three things. It funds enough manufacturing capacity to work through the current backlog without stretching lead times. It pays for the next-generation docking station design, which the company hints will target defence-grade specifications for temperature, humidity, dust and electromagnetic environment. And it seeds the international sales motion — defence customers in Southeast Asia and West Asia are the obvious first stops for an Indian ground-infrastructure vendor.
For the wider ecosystem, the round is a signal about where deep-tech capital is going. Piper Serica and its peers have been quietly writing pre-Series A cheques into hard-tech companies — indigenous inertial sensors (Yaanendriya), navigation (Yaanendriya again), broadband silicon (Aheesa), quantum middleware (Tech Mahindra-IISER-Pune) — through the summer, and the AlgoFET round fits the same pattern. The bet is that the next wave of Indian deep-tech value creation lies not in the flagship platforms themselves — the drones, the satellites, the chips — but in the enabling infrastructure that has to be built underneath them.
