Aeron Systems Raises ₹45 Crore to Scale India's Navigation and Weather-Sensing Hardware

The Raise

Pune-based Aeron Systems has closed a ₹45 crore (roughly $5 million) Pre-Series B funding round, jointly led by Riverwalk Holdings and MGF-Kavachh, the MountTech Growth Fund's defence-and-deep-tech vehicle. The round, announced September 1, 2026, will go toward expanding manufacturing capacity, accelerating R&D, developing new products, and pushing further into international markets.

What Aeron Actually Builds

Founded by Ashvani Shukla, who has served as CEO since 2015, and Abhijeet Bokil, Aeron Systems makes hardware that most people never see but that aircraft, drones, missiles and ships depend on to know exactly where they are and what the weather around them is doing. Its flagship Octantis line covers GNSS-aided, MEMS-based inertial navigation systems (INS) built for GNSS-denied environments — a capability that matters increasingly as jamming and spoofing become standard tools in modern electronic warfare. Alongside navigation, Aeron builds air data computers, weather-sensing and monitoring systems, flight test instrumentation, avionics, and positioning-navigation-and-timing (PNT) hardware. Its latest hardware, the OCT3-NS7700T, is a third-generation, rugged dual-antenna GNSS-aided MEMS-INS aimed at tactical-grade positioning for UAVs and manned platforms alike — the kind of incremental hardening and precision improvement that matters as much to a working system's reliability as any headline spec.

The company says it has more than 10,000 inertial navigation systems and over 2,500 weather stations already deployed in the field — a scale that reflects more than a decade of supplying India's core defence-industrial base. Its customer list includes Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), DRDO, the Indian Army and the Indian Navy, spanning aerospace, defence, and industrial applications such as agriculture and renewable energy where precise positioning and environmental sensing also matter.

Why This Matters for India's Defence Supply Chain

Inertial navigation and weather-sensing hardware sit in a category of defence technology that rarely makes headlines the way missiles or fighter jets do, but forms the backbone that lets those bigger systems function reliably — especially when GPS signals are degraded or denied, a scenario India's military planners increasingly treat as the norm rather than the exception in any serious conflict. Building that capability domestically, rather than importing it, has been a quiet but consistent thread running through India's defence-indigenisation push, alongside more visible efforts around drones, missiles and platforms.

Aeron's Pre-Series B follows a pattern seen across India's defence-tech investing landscape this year: dedicated defence and deep-tech funds like MountTech's MGF-Kavachh vehicle stepping in specifically to back component and subsystem makers — the less glamorous but strategically essential layer beneath the platform-level drone and missile startups that tend to draw bigger headlines and bigger rounds.

With fresh capital in hand, Aeron says it will use the funds to scale up manufacturing to meet growing domestic demand, invest further in R&D for next-generation navigation and sensing products, and build out its presence in export markets — a sign that Indian-made inertial navigation hardware is starting to look competitive well beyond India's own military and industrial base.
